Since being founded in December 2020 by Oscar “LVN” Levin, UKCS Hub served a very strong purpose in the UK community by hosting multiple cash cups. Most notably, they collaborated with both Into The Breach and RixGG to host £1000 tournaments. Unfortunately, since then UKCS Hub has fallen dormant – until now.
Mahir “Mazm0l” Azmal looks to breathe new life into the UK CS scene by installing bi-weekly cash cups with a £150 prize pool. Many of you might be asking who Mazm0l is and why he chose to remain anonymous in the announcement.
Many people in the community instantly said it didn’t feel right that the owner was hiding their identity. Numerous issues could arise with this but the main few were lack of accountability and potential conflict of interest. UKCSGO spoke to Mazm0l and he cleared the air by suggesting that this was not done with malicious intent; rather he did not want to attract attention to himself.
I hid my name in the announcement cause it allowed to me to have downtime from players and other
people to focus on the prep work going into February. I also hid my name because I’m a individual that
likes to works in the shadows and not claim fame or credit for something I do. Just give back to the scene.Mazm0l
Moreover, why has Mazm0l a fairly unknown name in the UK CS scene decided to put £150 of his own money every two weeks for a cash cup? Well, the answer is rather noble: In an interview with UKCSGO Mazm0l identified that in UK CS there was a big lack of progression in competition as you only have a few routes to climb with. Therefore, Mazm0l wants these cash cups to aid in people’s journeys.
I’m hosting these cash cups because its something else to do other then playing Faceit or 5 stack pugs. I’m also giving a opportunity for people to play that have a 9 to 5 and come have some fun and another avenue to play other then what is out there.
The reason why Mazm0l decided to buy out UKCS Hub from LVN instead of starting something new was that he wanted something that already had a legacy to it. Thus, the UKCS Hub.
Even though Mazm0l intends to try and support the climb of competitive players in UK CS, he told UKCSGO his target audience is more casual players. He accepts that competitive teams will join, but the target is to build up a community through more casual players, people who work 9-5s and want to have fun.
The plan for future is up to players. If you have some idea bring them forward and i’m open to discussion small or large these branches from content to tournaments to silly ideas. I have some got some stuff planned but that IF we make it but that is dream.
For now, the plan is to host bi-weekly cash cups with a ‘winner takes all’ philosophy with dates to be announced in February. There is a plan for upscaling in the future, looking at the idea of running full tournaments and maybe even LAN finals. However, for now, Mazm0l wants to start small and build up from there. Alongside this, there are also plans to do content around the UK CS scene.
Mazm0l, the now owner of UKCS Hub, currently advises for Royals EC. Royals EC are allowed to play but Mazm0l said he wouldn’t be involved “when it decision making and fixing any problems or queries that Royals have.”
